Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration Adanech Abiebie said the country has entered a new chapter of mutual respect, consultation, listening and understanding.

In a message shared on her official social media platform, Mayor Adanech expressed gratitude to God for what she described as a historic transition in Ethiopia’s political culture—from a “winner-takes-all” narrative toward dialogue, shared success and mutually beneficial solutions.

She said the national dialogue process had enabled Ethiopians to listen to one another, understand each other’s grievances and reach full agreement on 99 percent of nearly 400 major issues presented for consultation. On the remaining four issues, representing one percent, participants agreed to pursue alternative solutions despite failing to reach a single conclusion.

According to the Mayor, the outcome demonstrates that there was no distinct winner or loser in the dialogue process; rather, Ethiopia emerged as the winner.

Mayor Adanech described the process as a historic achievement that previous generations had long hoped to witness.

She commended Ethiopians from across the country for demonstrating maturity and deep understanding, saying the country can be built and strengthened through mutual understanding, togetherness, respect and a willingness to listen to and accept differing views.

She stressed, however, that reaching agreement through dialogue today does not mean differences will never arise in the future. Rather, she said, a new path has been opened for resolving differences through consultation and civilized means.

The Mayor expressed confidence that future generations will not inherit the burden of war, saying children should no longer be forced to attempt to resolve their differences through guns and violence.
