The Head of the African Union Election Observer Mission and former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, has issued a statement on Ethiopia’s ongoing 7th General Elections.
According to Uhuru Kenyatta, African Union observers have been monitoring polling stations across Ethiopia since voting commenced this morning.
He noted that the majority of polling stations opened on time and that the voting process has been proceeding according to schedule.
Kenyatta stated that the observer team witnessed Ethiopian citizens freely and voluntarily exercising their democratic right to vote, and commended their commitment to democratic participation.
“Based on our observations, citizens are choosing the parties of their preference without any pressure,” he said, describing the election process as peaceful, credible, and orderly.
He further noted that African Union observers deployed throughout the country are continuing to monitor the electoral process and will present a comprehensive assessment in the coming days.
Overall, the African Union Election Observation Mission reported that the election is being conducted peacefully and smoothly, while the security situation remains stable.
