Ethiopia’s strategic shift in its foreign relations and diplomacy over the past years of reform has not only enhanced the country’s influence on the international stage but has also made a significant contribution to safeguarding its national interests.

Over the past years, Ethiopia has overcome numerous internal challenges and international pressures. Through its determination and strategic approach to diplomacy, the country has been able to strengthen its voice and influence both in the region and on the international stage.

Ethiopia has based its foreign relations principles on mutual benefit and respect for sovereignty.

The achievements recorded within this framework have elevated the country’s standing to a higher level.

In particular, Ethiopia’s accession to BRICS has opened a new avenue for South-South cooperation. Its membership is expected to make a significant contribution to expanding Ethiopia’s access to international financial opportunities and strengthening its voice within global economic institutions.

In addition, the diplomatic efforts undertaken around the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) represent an achievement that enabled the country to safeguard its right to equitably utilize its natural resources.

Ethiopia’s continued efforts to promote peace in the Horn of Africa through IGAD and the African Union have also made a significant contribution to stability in neighboring countries.

These diplomatic achievements have laid a strong foundation for the country’s economic growth.

New cooperation agreements established with various countries have contributed to increasing foreign direct investment flows and accelerating technology transfer.

In particular, bilateral relations have produced encouraging results in stimulating the trade and tourism sectors.Furthermore, strengthening the participation of Ethiopians and people of Ethiopian descent living abroad in the diplomatic process has created significant potential for enhancing the country’s image and supporting development efforts.

Ethiopia’s foreign policy continues to play a key role in further strengthening the country’s voice on the international stage and sustaining its advocacy for fair representation at the African level.
