The successful initiatives implemented in Ethiopia to overcome dependency have demonstrated that nations can solve their own problems through collective effort and hard work, according to Bikila Hurissa (PhD), Minister Coordinator for Democratic System Building Center at the office of the Prime Minister.
The Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, held a consultative discussion in Dire Dawa under the theme “From Dependency to Productivity.” Speaking at the forum, Bikila stated that Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to overcome dependency are delivering tangible and encouraging results. More importantly, he noted that the agenda has been translated into practical action, creating broad awareness among leaders and the public that dependency can be overcome through determination and hard work.
According to the minister, the coordinated efforts undertaken to reduce dependency have significantly contributed to the success of national development programs and major government initiatives. He added that identifying priority areas for self-sufficiency, providing targeted training, and integrating the productive safety net program with environmental development activities have made the initiative increasingly effective.

Bikila further stated that coordinated actions carried out over recent years have helped reduce risks and challenges affecting vulnerable communities, with visible results already demonstrated in several districts.
As a result, many citizens who were previously dependent on assistance have transitioned into productive economic actors, generating income and producing beyond their own consumption needs to support wider markets and communities.
Describing the initiative as a historic journey, the minister said Ethiopia has proven in practice that it possesses the capacity to address its own challenges through domestic effort and coordinated action.
According to Bikila, the achievements recorded so far demonstrate that Ethiopia is increasingly building the capacity not only to withstand challenges, but also to show the world that it can solve its own problems independently.
