In a joint statement, the member states of the European Union, together with Canada, Norway, and Switzerland, have commended the successful conduct of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election, held on June 1, 2026.
The statement praised the collective efforts of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), political parties, candidates, election officials, and civil society organizations for their contributions to ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.
The joint statement also acknowledged the important role played by regional election observer missions, particularly those of the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in monitoring the electoral process and supporting transparency and public confidence in the election.
The recognition from the European Union and its international partners underscores the significance of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election as an important milestone in the country’s ongoing democratic journey.
