Speaking at the closing session of a training program for senior Prosperity Party leaders, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) underscored the need for structural reform and renewed focus in Ethiopia’s industrial sector.

The Prime Minister explained that the industry sector serves three fundamental objectives: import substitution, producing export-standard goods, and supplying critical inputs for other sectors.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the sector must evolve from its current state of imbalance toward a phase of sustained revitalization.

Prime Minister Abiy urged senior Prosperity Party leaders to create an enabling environment for private manufacturers operating across the country.

In his address, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that the government and the private sector must work jointly and cooperatively to achieve the nation’s industrial prosperity.

Addressing the challenges facing industrial development, the Prime Minister stated that investments financed through commercial loans have proven neither feasible nor profitable, noting that this reality is clearly observable in the industrial parks constructed across Ethiopia. These parks, Abiy Ahmed said, were built primarily through foreign commercial loans, yet have not delivered the expected economic return to the nation.

Abiy further stressed that Ethiopia’s approach to foreign direct investment requires fundamental change, emphasizing the need for a more selective strategy in attracting investors to ensure sustainable and mutually beneficial outcomes.
