The Kurtumi Riverside, developed under Addis Ababa’s Riverside Development Projects Initiative, has emerged as a vibrant recreational destination for residents and visitors, seamlessly blending nature with modernity.
The development features 21,906 square meters of floor space, a modern plaza, and an expansive 7 hectares of green space. Stretching 2.2 kilometers, the Kurtumi Riverside marks a major milestone in the city’s ongoing environmental protection efforts, as observed during a recent field visit by AMN.
A 4-kilometer-long, high-quality pedestrian walkway ensures safe, comfortable, and accessible movement for residents both day and night. Beyond its scenic appeal, the riverside has become a lively social and commercial hub, offering experiences ranging from art galleries and traditional clothing shops to a variety of retail outlets.
The site also includes children’s playgrounds, sports facilities, five amphitheaters, and modern restaurants, catering to all age groups. The seven hectares of greenery, filled with trees and plants, create a refreshing natural environment within the urban landscape.
A standout feature of the project is its three-storey underground parking facility, accommodating up to 500 vehicles. Equipped with advanced digital surveillance, fire protection systems, and electric vehicle charging stations, it reflects a forward-looking approach to urban infrastructure.
Overall, the Kurtumi Riverside project enhances recreational opportunities for Addis Ababa’s residents, generates employment, and serves as a model for the city’s evolving urban transformation.
