Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has officially launched the construction of 26,000 residential homes at the Lafto site, utilizing Ethiopia’s first-ever innovative building technology.
During the launch ceremony, Mayor Adanech emphasized that one of the city administration’s top priorities for the year is making housing more accessible and available to the city’s residents.
She stated that the administration has set a goal to build over 100,000 homes this year and is implementing various initiatives to achieve this ambitious target.
In order to ensure the delivery of this project with both speed and quality, the city administration has chosen Cold-Formed Steel technology for the first time in Ethiopia.

The mayor highlighted that this globally-recognized construction method allows for fast and high-quality residential building, making it an ideal solution to meet the growing demand for housing.
The factory located in Nefas Silk Lafto Sub-City is responsible for manufacturing all the components of the homes flooring, walls, and roofing, using pre-assembled steel materials. This streamlined process ensures faster construction timelines and a higher standard of quality.
Mayor Adanech reaffirmed the city administration’s commitment to working tirelessly to meet the needs of residents and ensure the success of this project.
Finally, the Mayor expressed her sincere gratitude, on behalf of herself and the city administration, to Engineer Yared Afework, the owner of Legacy Home, for introducing this cutting-edge technology to Ethiopia.
