In a message shared on her official social media platform, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie declared, “Ethiopia is voting,” while commending the residents of the capital for their patience, resilience, and steadfast commitment to the democratic process.
In this year’s election, you have reaffirmed your dedication to sustaining Ethiopia, ensuring lasting peace, and strengthening nation-building efforts.
To those who have remained in queues until this hour—mothers carrying babies on their backs, pregnant women, persons with disabilities, elders, adults, and youth—the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) extends its apologies. Although registration was conducted digitally, election officials took longer than expected to find voters’ names on the printed voter lists.
Therefore, I request that you continue to vote for the candidates you believe will best serve your interests, while remaining patient and understanding of the situation.
