In his inaugural speech, Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed (PhD) expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Ethiopian people who participated in the general election and placed their trust in the legal electoral process to establish legitimate government.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the 54 million citizens who voted for the establishment of popular government placing their trust in legal election,” he said.
He recalled the challenges citizens faced during the election period, noting that, despite threats from armed groups and misleading propaganda disseminated through various media outlets, citizens exercised their right to vote and expressed their will under difficult circumstances.
“During the election period, the citizens did not vote easily. They exercised their will despite numerous challenges and confusion. There were threats from armed forces in the jungle, as well as misleading propaganda disseminated through various media outlets, along with threats intended to intimidate them. Despite these challenges, the citizens exercised their will by voting,” he said.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening national unity to overcome potential challenges, saying, “We can overcome the national challenges ahead of us only when we move forward together as equals, united as brothers.”
