Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said his visit to the Ethiopia Meteorology Institute highlighted the importance of the institutionโs longstanding contributions to the countryโs development and resilience.
In a message shared on his official social media page, the Prime Minister emphasized that meteorological data collection, scientific research, and technological advancement are essential to strengthening Ethiopiaโs capacity to understand and respond to changing weather patterns and climate conditions.
โStrengthening institutions like the Ethiopia Meteorology Institute is essential. Investing in human capacity, modern technologies, and data infrastructure is critical to improving the services on which key sectorsโincluding agriculture, water, health, aviation, and disaster risk managementโdepend,โ he stated.
Abiy also underscored the importance of early warning systems in anticipating risks, identifying areas requiring urgent intervention, and enabling timely and effective responses.
He noted that reliable data, when translated into actionable information, can save lives, protect livelihoods, and support better decision-making.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that effective meteorological services extend beyond satellite observation, relying on a robust nationwide network of data collection stations and data centres where information is gathered, processed, and analyzed to guide timely action.
