Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s book “Medemer” is set to be published in Chinese, marking a significant milestone in the international reach of one of Ethiopia’s most influential contemporary philosophical works.
Following Ethiopia’s national reform process that began in 2010 E.C., “Medemer”, authored by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and widely regarded as a guiding framework for the country’s future development, has completed its official translation into Chinese and is now in the final stages of preparation for publication.
Often described as one of the few modern indigenous African philosophies to gain global recognition in recent years, Medemer continues to attract growing international attention. The philosophy emphasizes synergy, unity, and collective progress, positioning it as a framework for cooperation and shared development beyond national boundaries. With the completion of the Chinese translation, the book is poised to enter one of the world’s most influential linguistic and intellectual spheres.
Previously, Medemer has been translated into Amharic, Afaan Oromo, and English, and has also appeared in Arabic and Urdu, steadily expanding its global readership.
The upcoming Chinese edition represents a major step in this expansion, bringing the work into East Asia and strengthening its global presence. Beyond its literary importance, the development also carries broader cultural and political significance, as China has a long-standing and deeply influential tradition of political philosophy, from Maoist thought to contemporary governance ideas.
The translation is widely viewed as a milestone reflecting Ethiopia’s increasing contribution to global intellectual discourse. It signals a shift from historically importing dominant ideologies toward sharing homegrown philosophical frameworks with the world. With translations now spanning the Middle East, South Asia, and East Asia, Medemer continues to position itself as a philosophy of connection, cooperation, and cross-cultural engagement. The Chinese edition is expected to be released soon, according to Prosperity party.
