The 89th Yekatit 12 Martyrs’ Memorial Day is being commemorated in Addis Ababa through a series of remembrance events honoring the innocent Ethiopians who sacrificed their lives in defense of their country’s sovereignty and dignity.
Addressing the commemoration ceremony, the President of the Patriots Association, Lij Daniel Jote Mesfin, underscored that recalling the courage and sacrifice of Ethiopia’s forefathers continues to inspire the present generation.
The president noted that the resolute resistance of Ethiopians against colonial aggression not only humbled foreign occupiers but also cemented a legacy of national pride and resilience.
Lij Daniel further stressed that the observance of Yekatit 12 should extend beyond tribute, calling for the systematic documentation of the patriots’ historic struggle and the meaningful transmission of their legacy to future generations in a manner worthy of their honor.
The memorial program brought together children, youth, veteran patriots, and other stakeholders, reflecting a collective commitment to preserving the memory of the martyrs and upholding the enduring spirit of unity and patriotism they embodied.
