Members of the Ethiopian Parliament have questioned the government on its progress toward key developmental and political targets set for the first half of the current fiscal year.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed(PhD) has responded to the questions raised by members of the parliament regarding the Federal Government’s six-month performance report for the 2018 fiscal year.
Speaking about Foreign Direct Investment, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that Ethiopia has earned $2.6 billion in the past six months alone, reflecting a 20.6% growth compared to the same period last year.

Briefing Parliament on the issue, the Prime Minister added that Ethiopia has spent $11.3 billion on imports during the same period.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that both imports and exports have shown positive trends, contributing significantly to Ethiopia’s economy. Of the $11.3 billion spent on imports, 39% accounted for capital goods essential for national development, highlighting the strategic nature of the country’s trade.
Speaking at the Tenth Regular Session of the Sixth House of People’s Representatives, Fifth-Year Term, Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that these figures demonstrate the healthy growth of Ethiopia’s economy.
Abiy also noted that most government expenditure is allocated to key sectors of the nation, and that the government’s aggressive import-substitution efforts have helped reduce national import expenses over the past six months.
