Ethiopia & AfDB signed a USD 71.9 Million to Finance Building Resilience for Food and Livelihoods Progrm

FDRE and the African Development Bank, acting as an accredited entity of the Green Climate Fund, today signed a financing agreement amounting to USD 71.9 million for the implementation of the Building Resilience for Food and Livelihoods (BREFOL) Ethiopian Component Program.

The initiative builds up the results of Bank-supported projects, including the regional Drought Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods Program, and integrates climate-smart innovations, digital advisory services, and access to climate financing.

Accordingly, the project will directly implement a range of climate-resilient activities, including water infrastructures, development of community irrigation schemes, building livestock facilities, and renewable energy solutions. Of the total USD 71.9 million GCF Supplementary Financing, USD 25.64 million is in the form of grant and the remaining USD 46.30 million is in the form of loan.

The Agreement was signed by Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, and Dr. Alex Mubiru, Director General for East Africa Business Delivery Office at the African Development Bank as to Ministry of Finance Ethiopia reported it.
