Mauritian President Dharambeer Gokhool has said that Ethiopian Airlines’ newly launched direct flight service to Mauritius will play a significant role in accelerating continental economic integration across Africa.
The President stated that the direct flight service will create broader opportunities in tourism, trade, investment, and human capital development.
Ethiopian Airlines officially inaugurated its direct passenger service between Addis Ababa and Port Louis on July 12, 2025, with flights operating three times a week.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, following the launch of the new route, President Gokhool said that strong air connectivity is essential to unlocking Africa’s economic potential.

He noted that the commencement of direct flights between Addis Ababa and Port Louis would make a substantial contribution to realizing the African Union’s vision of accelerating continental economic integration.
The President reiterated that the new service also sends a strong message that Ethiopia is taking practical and strategic steps through its aviation sector to advance Africa’s economic integration.
President Gokhool further emphasized that Ethiopian Airlines’ service to Mauritius will strengthen the longstanding historical ties between the two countries while fostering closer economic cooperation.

He said Mauritius is working to position itself as a gateway to Africa for international investors and businesses, making enhanced air connectivity a key strategic asset.
The President also highlighted Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network across Africa and the world, noting that it will significantly boost trade and investment flows between the two countries while helping to address logistical challenges.
Beyond passenger and cargo services, President Gokhool praised Ethiopian Airlines’ internationally recognized excellence in training pilots and other aviation professionals, stating that this presents valuable opportunities for Mauritian citizens seeking careers in the aviation industry.
Looking ahead, he said Ethiopia and Mauritius have considerable potential to expand cooperation in education, healthcare, and other sectors by exchanging knowledge, technology, and expertise, ultimately delivering mutual benefits to the people of both countries.
