Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia Albert Muchanga said Ethiopia is laying a strong foundation for Africa’s shared prosperity by accelerating regional connectivity and continental economic integration.
He also affirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening its bilateral trade, investment, and multifaceted diplomatic cooperation with Ethiopia in new areas.
Speaking to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), Ambassador Albert Muchanga said the diplomatic friendship between Zambia and Ethiopia is growing stronger through cooperation in trade and investment.
He noted that Ethiopia is setting an example by accelerating regional connectivity and continental economic integration, thereby laying an impressive and strong foundation for Africa’s shared prosperity.
The Ambassador explained that Ethiopia’s development capacity in areas such as regional electricity supply, infrastructure connectivity, trade, and investment cooperation is exemplary.
He said the Joint Cooperation Commission established between Ethiopia and Zambia will hold its next meeting in Ethiopia, where the two countries will work to reach a common understanding on issues that promote mutual benefit.
He indicated that the meeting will be crucial for reviewing ongoing cooperation between the two countries in various sectors and identifying new areas of cooperation going forward. In particular, he noted that a plan is being prepared to identify opportunities for cooperation in trade, digitalization, training, and aviation, with the aim of translating the relationship between the two countries into tangible mutual benefits.
He said Zambia and Ethiopia are working through the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) not only to advance the interests of the two countries but also to strengthen Africa’s collective voice on the international stage.
In this regard, he stated that relations between Ethiopia and Zambia are evolving from historical diplomatic cooperation into a comprehensive partnership that promotes mutual benefit.
Ambassador Muchanga also explained that Ethiopia is firmly committed to building a green economy and advancing sustainable development by strengthening forest restoration through its Green Legacy Initiative.
He noted that the Green Legacy Initiative is crucial for strengthening forest, water, and environmental conservation and maintaining ecological balance.
He further explained that Ethiopia’s development achievements in increasing forest coverage represent a global development goal that transcends national borders.
Ambassador Muchanga said Ethiopia is moving in the right direction in terms of development, adding that its progress in building a green economy can serve as an example for other countries around the world.
He also pointed out that Ethiopia is playing a leading role in continental connectivity and environmental protection efforts.
In this regard, he highlighted Ethiopia’s active participation in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
He further explained that Ethiopia is working to facilitate trade under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.
