Singaporean investors have expressed interest in forging partnerships in Ethiopia’s ICT, wholesale trade, and service sectors.
This was revealed during a discussion between Zeleke Temesgen(PhD), Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, and Wong Chuo Sin, the Director for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa at the Singapore Ministry of Trade.
During the discussion, Commissioner Zeleke Temesgen stated that Ethiopia and Singapore have enjoyed long-standing diplomatic relations. The commissioner highlighted that the visit of Singapore’s Prime Minister to Ethiopia is a testament to the strong relationship between the two countries. The Commissioner added that this excellent relationship needs to be further strengthened, particularly in the investment sector.
Furthermore, he briefed the Director on the nationwide economic reforms being implemented in Ethiopia and the investment sectors recently opened to foreign investors.
For his part, Wong Chuo Sin, Director for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa at the Singapore Ministry of Trade, expressed his country’s desire to collaborate with Ethiopia in the real estate, wholesale trade, and service sectors. He specifically stated that Singaporean investors are eager to work closely with the Commission regarding the conditions for their engagement in these and similar sectors in Ethiopia.
The Director noted that various Singaporean companies, including Rapi Detergent, are already operating in Ethiopia, and expressed their desire to work in cooperation with Ethiopia to enhance this engagement.
