Addressing the joint session of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation, FDRE President Taye Atske Selassie highlighted that the measures taken by the government over the past five years to advance Ethiopia’s economy have laid a strong foundation for future economic performance. He therefore stressed the need to preserve these achievements and build on this legacy.
President Taye further explained that the deployment of agricultural technologies and inputs to modernize Ethiopia’s agricultural system, concerted efforts to expand irrigation infrastructure, increased manufacturing capacity, the expansion and redevelopment of the mining sector, growth in foreign trade and a significant increase in foreign direct investment, the development of tourism destinations and the surge in tourist arrivals, as well as the expansion of digital infrastructure and substantial progress in the service sector, have all played a significant role in and contributed to the country’s strong GDP growth.

President Taye added that, guided by the government’s Ten-Year Perspective Development Plan and pursuing a multisectoral economic approach and its objectives, as well as through the implementation of a more rigorous government revenue and taxation system, it was possible to increase domestic revenue.
He further noted that, by restructuring unviable commercial loans and expediting the completion of major projects that had previously consumed significant resources and time, the government was able to prevent disruptions to the country’s economic growth.
In addition, he said the country’s economic growth has resulted from improving the effectiveness and efficiency of government activities, replacing long-standing wasteful and outdated practices with new, innovative and consistent approaches, and implementing them in a manner that remains focused on achieving their intended objectives.

On the other hand, the government’s implementation of a performance-oriented approach that encourages public participation has enhanced institutional capacity, improved performance, and contributed to the development of practical experience.
He noted that increased public participation has also enhanced the effectiveness of government projects and programs through stronger cooperation between the government and the public.
The President cited the Green Legacy Initiative, which has contributed to expanding Ethiopia’s forest coverage, as well as integrated urban modernization and corridor development projects, as examples of how strong public–government cooperation and participation can drive tangible results within a relatively short period.
