Mayor of Addis Ababa City Adanech Abiebie announced in a social media post this afternoon that she toured the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center with the founder and board chair of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), Chris Hohn, and his team.

She said Lenegewa center is a major initiative conceived from a deep commitment to ensuring that women facing various social challenges can regain hope and opportunities, preserve their dignity and well-being, and lead better lives.

Mayor Adanech emphasized that the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center, which was launched in 2024, has trained and helped place 3,259 women in employment through five rounds of training in various vocational fields, focusing on both skills development and personal development.

She said all of the graduates have now begun new lives with dignity and renewed hope for a brighter future.
“Of all the work we undertake, the greatest is the work we do on people, particularly the work we do for women,” Mayor Adanech quoted Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) as saying, adding that this message is at the heart of the work being carried out at the center.
“The transformation we are witnessing among the women at Lenegewa center is greater than all the other changes we see in our city,” she said.

The Mayor noted that the vision for the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center is to transform it into a center of excellence that can train up to 10,000 women annually, ensure inclusive economic participation, and serve as a source of experience and learning for Ethiopia and Africa as a whole.

Mayor Adanech said she and her team showed CIFF founder Chris Hohn the people-centered activities being carried out at the Lenegewa Women’s Rehabilitation and Skills Development Center and held discussions on areas of future collaboration to help fully realize this vision.
“We will work day and night with dedication to achieve the goals of our vision, and the Creator will help us,” she concluded.
