Mayor of Addis Ababa City Adanech Abiebie announced this afternoon in a social media post that the city administration has completed its first-quarter performance review for the current Ethiopian fiscal year.
The Mayor said the two-day review assessed the administration’s performance in fulfilling its commitments to residents, improving their living conditions, expanding access to services and laying the foundation for future activities.
She attributed the achievements to a strong work ethic, a culture of serving with integrity, the implementation of the Medemer (Synergy philosophy) principle to deliver results efficiently and effectively, and the ability to translate plans into action without wasting time.
The Mayor said the Medemer Government had also introduced organizational improvements and made new leadership assignments based on performance to meet changing needs and strengthen its approach to governance.
As part of its 90-day plan, the city administration undertook volunteer work during Ethiopia’s rainy season, alongside Green Legacy initiatives, housing construction, and the upgrading of deteriorated neighborhoods. It also worked to provide clean and dignified housing for citizens facing housing shortages and those displaced from their homes due to development projects.

According to the Mayor, the administration also implemented food-sharing initiatives to ease the cost-of-living burden on low-income residents. It further challenged the longstanding perception that construction cannot proceed during the rainy season by undertaking numerous projects during the period.
In the transport infrastructure sector, four major parking and terminal centers were put into operation. The administration also constructed new roads, pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, drainage systems and sewer lines.
The Mayor said these infrastructure works were aimed at reducing flooding during the rainy season and preventing loss of life caused by flood-related incidents.
To ease the cost-of-living pressure during the rainy season, the administration facilitated the supply of large quantities of goods to seven market centers. It also upgraded weekend markets to improve access to products.

Adanech said the administration’s people-centered development activities had played a significant role in promoting social justice. She added that it would work to address performance gaps among institutions and individuals through support and monitoring.
The Mayor emphasized that all activities must contribute to institutional development, noting that fragmented capacity cannot achieve a shared vision or build a nation.
She stressed the need to strengthen coordinated working systems based on the Medemer principle, ensuring that every employee has clearly defined responsibilities and is held accountable for their duties.
The Mayor concluded by reaffirming the administration’s commitment to prioritizing public interests, safeguarding citizens’ dignity and delivering tangible results.
