A massive coal processing plant constructed in Arjo, East Wollega Zone of Oromia Regional State, and designed to supply critical industrial inputs to the nation, was officially inaugurated
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Oromia Regional State Shimelis Abdisa stated that the factory will not only generate substantial job opportunities for local youth but will also play a pivotal role in supplying essential raw materials to domestic cement factories and other construction industries.
The president emphasized that the project marks a significant step toward strengthening the country’s industrial base.
Shimelis underscored that the mining sector, which previously suffered from limited leadership attention and inadequate support, is now receiving enhanced technological, financial, and institutional backing under the special initiative of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
According to Shimelis, the coal processing plant plays a strategic role in supplying inputs to domestic manufacturing, and serve as a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s broader industrial development drive.
Shimelis further highlighted that the three Wollega zones in western Oromia including Ilubabor, Buno Bedele, and Jimma are endowed with abundant mineral and natural resources. Ensuring peace and stability in the region, he stressed, is vital to unlocking and sustainably utilizing these resources for development.
Calling on the public to actively participate in the ongoing economic reform, President Shimelis urged citizens to uphold unity and peace, enhance productivity, and work in close coordination with investors.
The president reaffirmed the regional government’s commitment to providing sustained support to expand such industrial projects and guarantee that their benefits reach the wider population.
