President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Taye Atsek-Selassie, said that Ethiopians demonstrated forgiveness in victory during the Battle of Adwa and the anti-fascist struggle.
In his message marking the occasion, the President stated that Ethiopian patriots combined victory with compassion and did not hold grudges against the defeated, describing this as a powerful manifestation of their strength and heroism.
He noted that Patriots’ Day is significant not only for Ethiopians but also for people around the world who steadfastly resisted fascist invasions.

The president further emphasized that Ethiopia commemorates Victory Day, not Independence Day.
President Taye stressed that the sacrifices of past generations should be deeply reflected upon by both current and future generations, noting that such reflection lays the foundation for progress and prosperity in Ethiopia.
He added that the nation’s zeal for freedom and determination to uphold sovereignty stem from a strong sense of self-respect, and that Ethiopia’s continuity has been secured through the blood and sacrifices of its patriots.

Praising those who showed unwavering resistance to fascism and mercenarism and fought for victory, the President emphasized that peace, freedom, and self-confidence are not granted from outside, but are earned through a nation’s own struggle.
President Taye also expressed his respect and gratitude to the patriots who defeated the ideology of fascism and sacrificed their lives to safeguard the country’s independence.
