Ethiopia and France have held discussions aimed at further strengthening their strategic partnership in the health sector.
State Minister of Health Frehiwot Abebe met with Anne-Claire Amprou, France’s Global Health Ambassador and Chair of the Executive Board of Unitaid, to explore areas of cooperation and ways to advance Ethiopia’s healthcare priorities.
During the discussion, State Minister Frehiwot highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to expand domestic production of essential medicines, medical equipment, and medical oxygen. She said strengthening local manufacturing is crucial to ensuring sustainable healthcare services and positioning Ethiopia as a health hub for East Africa and the wider continent. She also called for France to further strengthen its support for Ethiopia’s efforts in the health sector.
Anne-Claire Amprou, meanwhile, said Unitaid is working closely with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health in the fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. She noted that joint initiatives are also being launched to expand access to rapid diagnostic technologies and strengthen maternal health interventions, particularly those aimed at preventing postpartum hemorrhage.
In a separate engagement, State Minister Frehiwot held talks with a high-level South Korean delegation led by Dr. Jiho Cha. She highlighted the growing investment opportunities in Ethiopia’s health sector and encouraged South Korean investors to explore and take advantage of the favorable investment environment.
