Ethiopia’s House Reviews Draft Proclamation on Federal Executive Organs

The 7th House of People’s Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is discussing a draft proclamation presented during its 1st extraordinary session.

Fikadu Tessema, a member of the House and representative of the government, provided a brief explanation of the necessity of the draft proclamation.

In the explanation presented, it was stated that there is no numerical difference from the 22 executive organs that previously existed, and that, in terms of number, the ministries will continue to remain at 22.

Nevertheless, it was explained that only the names of two ministries have been changed, while two ministries have been newly established.

According to Information Obtained from the House, the two newly established ministries are the former Ministry of Culture and Sport, which has been re-established as the new Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the former Ministry of Tourism, which has also been re-established under the new name Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

In addition, it was stated that the former Ministry of Planning and Development has been renamed the Ministry of National Strategy, while the former Ministry of Transport and Logistics has been renamed the Ministry of Logistics.

It was also explained that the amendments to the ministries were necessitated by the need to make them more effective and align them with their respective mandates.

Regarding the draft proclamation, Fitsum Assefa (PhD), Minister of Planning and Development, is currently providing an extensive explanation to the House.
