Guinness World Records has recognised Kenyaโs Sabastian Sawe and Ethiopiaโs Tigst Assefa as the fastest male and female marathon runners respectively, following their triumphs at the TCS London Marathon 2026 on Sunday.
Sawe became the first man to run a legal sub-two-hour marathon, completing the 42.2-kilometre course in 1:59:30, with Ethiopiaโs Yomif Kejelcha also dipping under two hours to finish second.
Ethiopiaโs Tigst Assefa surged ahead in the closing kilometres to win the womenโs race in 2:15:41, setting new womenโs-only marathon world record and securing her second consecutive London title.
The TCS London Marathon 2026 attracted 59,000 runners for the 42.2-kilometre race, according to TRT Africa.
