The large-scale corridor and riverside development projects being implemented across Addis Ababa are already playing a pivotal role in revitalizing the city’s ecosystem.

For years, Addis Ababa’s rivers and riverbanks served as dumping grounds for liquid and solid waste, posing constant flood risks. However, extensive work carried out in recent years is rapidly rewriting this narrative.

Riverbanks that were once primary sources of pollution are being transformed into beautiful recreational hubs, cycling lanes, and public parks, helping improve air quality in the city. Cleaning up these riverbanks and planting erosion-preventing vegetation has also successfully begun liberating the city’s water bodies from heavy pollution.

Beyond basic infrastructure, the sweeping corridor development project currently underway across the capital represents massive environmental protection efforts.

The green spaces integrated throughout various areas of the corridor development are contributing significantly to lowering the capital’s carbon footprint.

Furthermore, the construction of wide pedestrian walkways and dedicated bicycle lanes encourages residents to opt for eco-friendly transport options over motorized vehicles, effectively reducing air pollution.

The strategic placement of waste bins and modern public restrooms along these corridors has also fostered a stronger culture of public hygiene among residents.

Recent projects, such as the newly inaugurated Entoto-Kechene Riverside Project, demonstrate that riverside developments can also create substantial job opportunities for the youth, proving that environmental preservation and economic benefits can go hand in hand.

Overall, Addis Ababa is rapidly becoming a greener, cleaner, and more livable city through its corridor and riverside development projects.
