PM Abiy, Malaysian Prime Minister Discuss Expanding Economic Cooperation

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the meeting provided an opportunity to build on the momentum of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Addis Ababa in November 2025.

“It was a pleasure to meet Prime Minister @anwaribrahim of Malaysia on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit and build on the momentum of his historic visit to Addis Ababa in November 2025,” Prime Minister Abiy said.

He said the discussions focused on expanding investments, tourism, renewable energy partnerships and cooperation in the lead up towards COP32.

Prime Minister Abiy added that the two sides also explored opportunities to learn from Malaysia’s experience in industrial parks, productivity, and manufacturing.

Prime Minister Abiy further said Ethiopia and Malaysia have significant potential to strengthen their economic partnership.

“Ethiopia and Malaysia share significant potential for a stronger economic partnership, creating new opportunities in investment, technology, skills, and sustainable development,” he said.
