Former Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Federation and Council Member of the Simert Democratic Party, Keria Ibrahim, has accused the illegal TPLF group of deliberately and systematically undermining Tigray’s younger generation through what she described as an organized structural campaign.

Speaking to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) about the current situation in the Tigray region, Keria alleged that the group has established an alliance under the name “Tsimido” with Eritrea, Sudan, and domestic extremist groups, claiming that its objective is to destabilize Ethiopia in order to sustain its own political survival.

Keria further alleged that the group has used the Pretoria Peace Agreement as a strategic opportunity to regroup and prepare for another round of conflict while continuing to inflict suffering on the people of Tigray, particularly mothers and young people.

According to her, the Pretoria Peace Agreement marked a genuine turning point by ending armed conflict and restoring hope for lasting peace in the region. She said the Federal Government has since undertaken extensive efforts to rebuild damaged infrastructure, restore public institutions, and improve conditions for a peaceful and stable life in Tigray.

She also highlighted the establishment of the Tigray Interim Administration, which she said enabled key public institutions with significant social and economic importance to resume operations. In addition, Keria noted that former Tigray combatants underwent rehabilitation programs and received financial support to facilitate their reintegration into civilian life.

Despite these efforts, Keria claimed that the TPLF treated the peace agreement merely as a tactical pause.

She alleged that the group repeatedly undermined the Interim Administration, convened what she described as an illegally constituted regional council, and formed a cabinet lacking public legitimacy.

Keria further asserted that the group is intentionally jeopardizing Tigray’s future by preparing for renewed conflict and forcibly recruiting children and young people, causing widespread suffering among families throughout the region.

She also accused the group of collaborating with domestic and foreign hostile actors in an attempt to drag Tigray back into war and instability, claiming that such actions have attracted condemnation from several countries and international organizations.

Keria additionally alleged that the group has been involved in the illegal exploitation and looting of gold and other valuable mineral resources in collaboration with Eritrea. She further claimed that Tigray youth have been sent to fight in Sudan in exchange for foreign currency, which she alleged has been used to procure weapons.

According to Keria, the forced recruitment of children into military training camps constitutes a serious violation of both Ethiopian and international law. She maintained that, despite growing criticism from within Ethiopia and the international community, the group continues to disregard calls for restraint while pushing the region toward renewed instability.

Keria also claimed that mothers across Tigray have begun openly protesting against the group’s actions and that many young people and community members are resisting what she described as its destructive agenda.

She further alleged that the closure of schools and the transfer of students to military camps are depriving thousands of children of education and future opportunities. Keria also criticized the group’s reported plan to administer its own Grade 12 national examination, arguing that it risks undermining students’ academic futures and limiting their educational prospects.

Concluding her remarks, Keria alleged that these actions reflect a deliberate and systematic strategy aimed at destroying Tigray’s next generation by depriving its youth of peace, education, and hope for the future.
