United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has praised Ethiopia’s commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation.
The Secretary-General made the remarks during the unveiling of a special four-stamp edition at the National Palace marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

Describing Addis Ababa as a city he visits at least once a year, Guterres said the Ethiopian capital is constantly changing and growing rapidly.
He noted that, as the seat of the African Union, Addis Ababa remains at the forefront of the continent’s major diplomatic hubs.
He further stated that Ethiopia’s rapid economic growth reflects the country’s strong historical foundations and promising future prospects.
Emphasizing the long-standing and strong relationship between Ethiopia and the United Nations, Guterres recalled that Ethiopia was among the original 51 countries that signed the UN Charter.
The Secretary-General also noted that Ethiopia’s independence, at a time when much of Africa was under colonial rule, enabled the country to serve as an inspiration for other African nations in their struggle for freedom.

In addition, he expressed appreciation for the outstanding contribution of Ethiopians in peacekeeping operations around the world.
Guterres reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to strengthening its partnership in support of the Ethiopian government’s development strategy and the well-being of the Ethiopian people.
