The President of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation, Commander and athlete Seleshi Sehin, stated that the Zayed charity Run held this morning in Addis Ababa has introduced a new competitive platform for athletes while also creating valuable income opportunities.
Speaking to AMN, Seleshi highlighted that the 5 km race, which started and finished at Meskel Square, was organized with a strong emphasis on kindness and mutual support.

He emphasized that the event has opened up a new competition avenue for athletes, complementing existing races. Notably, prominent athletes took part, and winners received prizes of up to 600,000 birr, enhancing the financial benefits available to participants.
Seleshi also pointed out that events such as the Great Ethiopian Run, along with regional road races, are increasingly serving as alternative competitive platforms. These events not only provide athletes with more opportunities to compete but also contribute to income generation.

He stressed that expanding such competitions is essential, noting that athletics remains one of Ethiopia’s key national assets.
According to him, the federation is actively working to develop track and field events alongside road races.
Seleshi concluded by underlining that broadening road race initiatives will play a significant role in promoting Ethiopia internationally.
