Ethiopian-born Canadian international footballer Ali Ahmed visited the Adey Abeba International Stadium in Addis Ababa alongside Mekiyu Mohammed, State Minister for the Sports Development Sector at the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
According to Ministry of Culture and Sports, construction of the landmark stadium is progressing steadily. Preparations are currently underway to install the stadium’s roof, a structure weighing approximately 7,000 tons, as well as the spectator seating.

The visit comes as work accelerates on one of Ethiopia’s flagship sports infrastructure projects. In March, the Ministry of Culture and Sports signed an agreement with the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) to complete the remaining construction of the stadium in less than two years.
Once completed, the Adey Abeba International Stadium will accommodate more than 60,000 spectators. The stadium’s playing field has already received FIFA certification, marking an important milestone toward meeting international standards and positioning the venue to host major continental and global sporting events.
