Mayor Adanech Urges Continued Care for Seedlings After National Planting Drive

Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie has joined the nationwide campaign to plant 800 million tree seedlings in a single day, describing the initiative as a lasting legacy for future generations.

Speaking during the campaign, the mayor said that Ethiopians are “planting hope” through the Green Legacy Initiative, emphasizing its wide-ranging environmental, economic, and social benefits.

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Mayor Adanech noted that residents of Addis Ababa turned out in large numbers to participate in the national tree-planting drive, demonstrating their commitment to leaving a positive legacy for the country.

She stated that trees provide numerous benefits, including food, cleaner air, shade, and enhanced beauty for urban areas. Taking these advantages into account, she said, the Addis Ababa City Administration is implementing initiatives that promote a greener, healthier, and more livable city for current and future generations.

The mayor commended the strong public participation in achieving the goal of planting 800 million tree seedlings in a single day. She also called on residents to uphold their shared responsibility by properly nurturing and protecting the newly planted seedlings, stressing that their collective commitment is essential to ensuring the long-term success of the Green Legacy Initiative.
