Ethiopian Airlines will launch scheduled passenger flights to Port Harcourt, Nigeria, beginning December 1, 2026, further expanding its presence in one of its longest-served African markets.
The new service will operate four times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, connecting Port Harcourt with Ethiopian Airlines’ hub in Addis Ababa.
The route will operate four times weekly between Addis Ababa and Port Harcourt, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the new service will strengthen the airline’s presence in Nigeria and support greater connectivity for trade, tourism and business.
“Our continued expansion in Nigeria reflects our commitment to supporting the country’s economic development through enhanced air connectivity. The new service will provide greater convenience and seamless travel options for our customers while reinforcing trade, tourism and business links between Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world.”
Port Harcourt is a major commercial and industrial centre and an important gateway to Nigeria’s energy sector. The new route will provide passengers with connections through Addis Ababa to destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.
Port Harcourt will become Ethiopian Airlines’ fifth destination in Nigeria, joining Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Enugu. The airline first began serving Nigeria in 1960.
The expansion reflects Ethiopian Airlines’ broader strategy of strengthening intra-African connectivity and linking African markets with the global economy through its Addis Ababa hub.
Ethiopian Airlines Group has grown into a globally recognized African airline over the past eight decades.
Ethiopian Airlines currently serves more than 160 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents, operating a fleet that includes Boeing 737, 777 and 787 aircraft, Airbus A350s and De Havilland Q400s Pulse of Africa reported.
Ethiopian, a Star Alliance member airline, has received several industry awards, including Skytrax’s Best Airline in Africa award for eight consecutive years, APEX’s Best Overall in Africa award and the Leadership in Connecting Africa through Transport award, among others.
