Speaking to the media on the newly developed Entoto–Kechene Riverside Development and Service Facilities Project, Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie stated that the riverside development stretches from Entoto to Peacock and comprises six segments, of which the section from Entoto to Qechene was opened today by the city administration.
According to the mayor, the project covers 9.6 kilometers and lies on about 600 hectares of land.
Mayor Adanech said the riverside project is a place where the city’s green development initiative has been boldly demonstrated.
Speaking about its vibrancy, the mayor emphasized that the area’s air quality is breathtaking and that the project was designed in a way that makes it both conducive to a healthy lifestyle and pleasant to visit.
Pointing out that the area is a natural site, Adanech said it was previously prone to flooding during the rainy season, exposed to pollution, and affected by the spread of respiratory and related communicable diseases. However, following the city administration’s development efforts, the area has become beautiful and attractive.
The mayor added that water that was once polluted has now been purified, while dried-up water sources have also been restored.
According to the mayor, the area has been transformed into a green landscape through extensive tree planting.
She added that environmental conservation works were undertaken, resulting in the restoration and growth of the ecosystem, making the area attractive to all visitors.
The riverside project was developed by local architects, and its design was prepared by Ethiopian experts, the mayor said.
More than ten thousand community members in the area are benefiting from the facility.
The riverside development features check dams, water filtration systems that prevent pollution, pedestrian walkways, bridges that facilitate connectivity, asphalt roads, and hiking routes. It also includes children’s playgrounds and other recreational facilities.
Mayor Adanech stated that the city administration has significantly improved connectivity throughout the area.
The mayor called on citizens to visit and enjoy the vibrant and breathtaking Entoto recreational site.
