Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Adanech Abiebie has toured a range of ongoing multi-sector development projects across the capital, highlighting their role in transforming the city and improving residents’ quality of life.
During her visit, the Mayor said major projects that are reshaping Addis Ababa’s image while delivering tangible benefits to the public are being implemented successfully.
She explained that the city’s development activities are guided by an integrated, multi-sector strategy designed to ensure sustainable and far-reaching results.
The projects span tourism and agriculture, including the development of fruit parks and beekeeping initiatives that strengthen food security while creating new tourist destinations. Beyond enhancing the city’s beauty, these sites are also generating income and creating employment opportunities for local communities.
Speaking on sports development, Mayor Adanech noted that a modern, standard stadium is currently under construction at a site known as “Zero Zero” beneath Mount Entoto.
She also emphasized that the projects are being carried out through strong partnerships between the government and the private sector. In this framework, the government provides land, design, and infrastructure, while the private sector contributes financial resources and technical capacity.
The Mayor added that the riverside development projects alone have created direct employment for 56,000 citizens, with nearly 300 associations participating in the initiative.
She further stressed that dumping waste into rivers is a criminal offense and called on residents to take responsibility for protecting their environment from pollution.
Concluding her remarks, Mayor Adanech Abiebie reaffirmed that as Africa’s diplomatic capital, Addis Ababa will continue its transformation to become truly “new,” in line with its name, through sustained and strengthened development efforts.
