It has been stated that the wide-ranging economic reforms currently being implemented in Ethiopia are creating broad investment opportunities for investors interested in investing in the country.

An Ethiopia–Brazil Business Forum aimed at strengthening investment and economic cooperation between Ethiopia and Brazil was held in Addis Ababa.

Speaking at the forum, the Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, Zeleke Temesgen(PhD), said that today’s forum goes beyond dialogue and focuses on building practical investment partnerships, marking the opening of a new chapter in the history of economic cooperation between the two countries.

The commissioner noted that the extensive reform measures implemented by Ethiopia over the past eight years have enabled the country to create a favourable and predictable investment environment.

He highlighted that key sectors previously closed to foreign investors such as telecommunications, banking, trade, logistics, and retail have now been opened, creating wide-ranging investment opportunities for investors seeking to invest in Ethiopia.

Accordingly, Zeleke called on Brazilian investors to take advantage of Ethiopia’s ongoing comprehensive economic reforms, its renewable energy potential, modern special economic zones, and access to a market of 1.4 billion people through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and to invest in the country.

Alongside the forum, Commissioner Zeleke held bilateral discussions with a high-level Brazilian delegation led by Senator Jorge Viana, President of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), and Ambassador Alex Giacomelli, Director for Trade and Agribusiness at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the conclusion of the forum, a memorandum of understanding was signed to further facilitate and strengthen investment and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The forum, which is expected to open a new chapter in Ethiopia–Brazil investment and economic relations, was attended by senior government officials, including the Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Kassahun Gofe(PhD), as well as numerous Brazilian investors as to Ethiopian Investment Commission reported it.
