Yonase Shewangzaw was born and raised in Olympia, Addis Ababa.
Speaking to Addis Media Network (AMN), Yonase said that from an early age his dream has been to create new products using locally available materials. For many years, he has worked in the metalwork and welding sector, a profession he continues to pursue today. However, Yonase explained that he was never satisfied with the limited scope of metalwork in Ethiopia, which is often confined to producing doors, windows, and basic household or office items. Determined to go beyond these conventional practices, he aspired to bring innovation and higher-value manufacturing into the sector.
To turn this vision into reality, Yonase established a company called Yonase Solutions in Addis Ababa. The company has already created job opportunities for more than 25 young people who share his passion for innovation and manufacturing.

Yonase Solutions operates from a workshop located in the Goro-Woji Industrial Village, which was provided by the Addis Ababa City Administration. From this facility, Yonase and his team are producing innovative products not only for the domestic market but also for international markets, aiming to position Ethiopia as a competitive player in manufacturing.
One of the company’s flagship products is a locally manufactured coffee machine, designed to replace imported machines from abroad. Yonase noted that this innovation has received recognition from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) as well as from the Addis Ababa City Administration.
Speaking to AMN Digital, Yonase stated that, through government-supported market linkages, he has even been invited to Angola to showcase his innovative work.
Over the years, he has also received several certificates and trophies from different institutions in recognition of his contributions to innovation and local manufacturing.
