Addis Ababa is stepping up efforts to improve residents’ living conditions, with a newly constructed residential building handed over to vulnerable citizens and veterans in the Akaki-Kaliti Sub-City.

In a message shared on her official social media page, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie announced that the newly built Begenet Residential Building is intended to provide safe, comfortable, and dignified housing for beneficiaries who previously lived in inadequate conditions.

The Mayor said the initiative represents an important step toward easing the city’s housing challenges while recognizing and honoring citizens who have made significant contributions to the country.

The new homes, supported by essential infrastructure, are expected to improve beneficiaries’ quality of life, ease housing-related burdens, and provide them with greater security and renewed hope for the future.

Mayor Adanech emphasized that housing development is about more than constructing buildings. It is also about safeguarding human dignity, improving citizens’ well-being, and creating better opportunities for the future.

She reaffirmed the city administration’s commitment to expanding efforts to address housing needs and ensuring that residents have access to safe and suitable living environments.

The Mayor has also congratulated the beneficiaries on receiving their new homes, expressing hope that the houses would become places of happiness, peace, dignity, and renewed hope.

She also expressed appreciation to real estate developers who responded positively to the call for collective action and contributed to the initiative.

According to the Mayor, partnerships between the public sector and private developers are essential to improving living conditions, addressing urban challenges, and building a more inclusive and prosperous city.

The Mayor further pledged to strengthen collaboration with development partners and other stakeholders to improve residents’ well-being and respond to pressing urban needs.

The initiative reflects Addis Ababa’s broader commitment to creating a city where all residents can enjoy better living conditions, greater security, and a life of dignity.

“Together, we work to improve the lives of our residents and build a better Addis Ababa,” Mayor Adanech stated.
