In a message shared on her official social media page, Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Adanech Abiebie, announced the inauguration of an additional private sector milk processing factory. The new facility expands the reach and accessibility of the existing Lame Dairy Processing Factory in Addis Ababa.

The Mayor emphasized that the expanded dairy processing capacity will significantly improve the production, variety, quantity, and quality of milk and dairy products, ensuring wider and more reliable distribution to consumers across the city and the country at large.

She further noted that, despite Ethiopia’s abundant livestock resources, milk supply remains constrained due to challenges in the value chain and productivity. “This shortage negatively affects children who need adequate nutrition for healthy growth, as well as productive citizens,” the Mayor stated.

Mayor Adanech also highlighted that the Lame Dairy initiative represents a positive step forward, as it has begun producing safe, high-quality, and long-lasting dairy products using modern technology, an effort that helps ease existing supply challenges.

Moreover, she underscored that the inauguration strengthens market linkages for farmers, enabling them to supply their products in a more organized, efficient, and quality-assured manner.

She concluded by stressing that this promising initiative should be further strengthened and sustained to continue advancing the city’s agro-industrial development.
