The Mountain Bike Eliminator Pro league International Race has officially kicked off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. The event was officially launched by Mayor of Addis Ababa Adanech Abiebie. The competition is being held around the historic Piazza area, in the heart of the city.

During the opening ceremony, the mayor warmly welcomed guests, describing Addis Ababa as a major diplomatic hub. She noted that this is the first time the city is hosting such a global sporting event, which has attracted top international athletes from more than 24 countries.
According to her, the competition places Addis Ababa among emerging international centers for sports. Mayor Adanech added that hosting the event at the Adwa Victory Memorial gives it a special meaning.

She also highlighted the city administration’s ongoing efforts to transform Addis Ababa into a modern, green, and livable city by expanding infrastructure such as cycling lanes, improving walkways, and creating more public spaces.
“These kinds of events demonstrate that the city is ready to host world-class competitions,” she stated, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to promoting green transport and healthy lifestyles.

She further stressed that while Addis Ababa is widely known as Africa’s diplomatic capital, it is also becoming an important international destination for sports.
