Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives is convening its 30th Regular Session in the fifth year of its current parliamentary term, ahead of the transition to a new Parliament scheduled to assume office in September.

Responding to questions raised by Members of Parliament regarding Ethiopia’s national dialogue, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said the process represents a significant opportunity for Ethiopians to engage in meaningful discussions and address the country’s long-standing challenges.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the national dialogue is not only important for Ethiopia but also carries broader significance for Africa, as it could provide valuable lessons and contribute to efforts aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation, and inclusive solutions across the continent.

Addressing the House of Peoples’ Representatives, Prime Minister Abiy stated that the national dialogue is expected to have a lasting impact by creating a platform for Ethiopians to discuss major national issues, resolve differences, and find solutions to challenges that have affected communities across the country for many years.

Prime Minister Abiy further clarified that the national dialogue is not intended to address the interests or challenges of the Prosperity Party, but rather focuses on resolving the deep-rooted and complex issues facing Ethiopian society as a whole.

The Prime Minister underscored that the objective of the dialogue is to bring Ethiopians together, foster mutual understanding, and build a shared vision for the country’s future through peaceful and inclusive engagement.
