Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially inaugurated the Aysha-II Wind Power Project, a landmark investment that reinforces Ethiopia’s ambitious renewable energy agenda and long-term energy security strategy.

In a statement shared on his official social media platform, the Prime Minister noted that the flagship project, located in the Somali Region, stands as a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s efforts to build a resilient and sustainable power system.

“With an annual generation capacity of 467 gigawatt-hours (GWh), Aysha-II delivers the reliable, scalable energy infrastructure required to support a modern, technology-driven economy,” said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed

Beyond its impressive capacity, the Aysha plains offer a strategic geographic advantage, ranking among East Africa’s premier wind corridors.

The project’s proximity to neighboring countries further positions Ethiopia as an emerging regional hub for cross-border energy trade.

Guided by the principle of Medemer, the government remains committed to transforming Ethiopia’s vast natural endowments into shared assets—fostering economic integration and physically connecting the nations of the Horn of Africa through sustainable energy development.
