Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has emphasized the need to end Ethiopia’s longstanding pattern of beginning disputes with harsh rhetoric and resolving them through force, calling for a lasting shift toward dialogue and peaceful solutions.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony of Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Conference, the Prime Minister said the ongoing dialogue process represents a new approach, moving away from a history where major decisions were often made by a limited number of individuals.
He noted that hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians have participated in discussions over the past four years, contributing to the foundation of the current national dialogue process.

Prime Minister Abiy described the repeated cycle of confrontational rhetoric followed by the use of force as one of the country’s major historical challenges, stressing that it must be addressed permanently through inclusive dialogue and consensus-building.
He underscored that the National Dialogue holds critical importance in creating a peaceful and shared future for Ethiopia.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that Ethiopia has experienced numerous challenges and endured significant hardships over the years. However, he expressed confidence that by transforming these challenges into opportunities, the country can build a stronger and more prosperous future for generations to come.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also called on all participants of the historic conference to approach the process with a strong sense of responsibility and sincerity, urging them to work together toward achieving lasting solutions and national consensus.
