The Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have held bilateral talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in technology development and implementation.

A delegation led by Ankur Vora, President of the Foundation’s Africa and India Offices, paid a working visit to the Institute as part of efforts to explore new areas of partnership that could support Ethiopia’s ongoing digital transformation.

During the discussions, the Institute’s Director General, Worku Gachena (PhD), highlighted how Ethiopia is harnessing artificial intelligence to advance the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also presented a range of locally developed AI solutions and achievements in key sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, finance, and education.

The two sides discussed potential areas of collaboration, with particular emphasis on cloud infrastructure development, human capital capacity building, and support for emerging startups. The discussions are expected to continue as both institutions work toward establishing a long-term partnership.

The Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute serves as a government center of excellence dedicated to accelerating Ethiopia’s transition to a digital economy.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, established in 2000, is among the world’s largest philanthropic organizations, supporting initiatives in health, education, agriculture, and poverty reduction across the globe.
