The 1.6 billion dollar health cooperation framework agreement between the governments of Ethiopia and the United States will last for 5 years (2026-2030).
The cooperation framework aims to continue existing support in HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, maternal and child health, pandemic response and preparedness, and to further strengthen Ethiopia’s health system.
Of the 1.6 billion dollar cooperation framework, the United States government will provide 1.16 billion, while the Ethiopian government will cover the remaining financing in accordance with its sustainable financing plan to increase domestic health system financing.
The long-term cooperation framework between the two countries; It will also help strengthen an integrated and resilient health system, ensure the health of citizens, enhance the capacity and skills of health professionals, and build a sustainable health system by increasing domestic health financing and domestic medicine supply and production.
Ethiopia’s successful record in primary health care, community health, and community health services over the past two decades was noted during the agreement.
The Cooperation Framework Agreement was signed by the US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ambassador Ervin Masinga, and the Ethiopian government in the presence of Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and Health Minister Mekdes Daba(PhD) as to Ministry of Health, Ethiopia reported it.
