Election Deemed Successful, Highly Participatory, and a Model for Other Nations: African Union Election Observer Mission

“We have observed that the election was free, fair, and inclusive,” said Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security.

The announcement of the results of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election is currently underway at Sky Light Hotel in Addis Ababa.

Presenting the findings of the African Union Election Observer Mission, Ambassador Adeoye stated that the democratic practices demonstrated throughout the electoral process reflect Ethiopia’s longstanding democratic tradition and its leadership role on the African continent.

He noted that the African Union’s observation mission found the election to be free, fair, credible, and inclusive. The Ambassador further emphasized that the electoral process was successful, characterized by broad public participation, and serves as an exemplary model from which other countries can draw valuable lessons.

According to Ambassador Adeoye, the conduct of the election underscores Ethiopia’s continued commitment to strengthening democratic governance and promoting inclusive political participation.
